God has given power of change to what we partake of. Starting from beginning when Adam and Eve ate the fruit it changed them from with in. The Nation of Israel after concurring the promise land were told by God to destroy the nations living there so that Israelites do not partake of those nations because it will change them. When man consume alcohol or drugs it changes a man. Likewise when God wanted to bring change to His people he gave them something to consume. Before taking the people into promise land He told them to consume the passover lamb that changed them and gave them freedom.

However, even after gaining freedom they had the desire of what they remember Egyptians eating and God gave them mana from heaven so they would change. And when Jesus came He offered bread, who is the Bread of Life, because he wants to bring changes. Changes from God.
